He then applied for a mayor’s permit for him to be allowed to park the truck right in downtown Manhattan. Sad to say, he was told that only production teams are allowed to park trailer trucks. Without losing hope, he thought of a wild yet positive idea; changing his shoe line name from Kenneth Cole, Inc. to Kenneth Cole Productions, Inc. The following day, he returned to the mayor’s office to comply a permit to shoot a film called “The Birth of a Shoe Company”.

With everything in its place, the optimistic designer opened for business. In two and a half days, he totally sold his forty thousand pairs of shoes. And the rest they say is history.

Almost three decades later, Kenneth Cole Production has expanded from footwear collections to the distribution of men’s and women’s accessories, footwear, and clothing.
