Italian fashion designer Mario Prada in 1913 humbly started his namesake company selling simple but fine quality leather handbags. Little did he foresee that his granddaughter – who at that time seemed to have no interest in fashion – would bring the family name blazing to the top of the fashion world many decades later.
Before Prada leather handbags served as flagship luxury pieces of the company, shoes, trunks, and suitcases products first carried the label under the design genius of Mario, who eventually became known in Milan for coming up with exquisite leather accessories and waterproof handbags, which were aimed at making air travel more convenient.
Although Mario brought the label to high popularity with his fine leather handbags, his reluctant granddaughter Miuccia, an activist who also holds a Political Science doctorate degree, ironically moved the company to greater heights when she took over in 1978.
Miuccia's shot to fame was heading the meteoric rise of the Prada nylon handbag, her billion-dollar creation made of a special and finely woven nylon fabric called Pocone. It was also during her leadership that the fashion house was lined up among the top companies in the world.
Despite her lack of appropriate educational background, Miuccia successfully ran the company using her mere inborn talent in fashion designing, which runs in the blood of the Prada's.
Starting with three boutiques in Milan, the company has globally penetrated the fashion industry, which recognizes the label as an ultimate designer brand icon. Prada handbags, for instance, are bestseller fashion accessory item for the high-class fashionistas including Hollywood Celebrities. Highly sophisticated fashion-conscious women would eagerly roll their cash for a $350 to $1200 Prada handbag, which are often limited to celebrities.
The company also operates a number of other fashion lines and made the designer label synonymous with high-end couture style, including the more affordable Miu Miu line named after Miuccia targeted toward younger fashion aficionados.
Until today, Prada maintained to be recognized for its signature triangle logo and lovely black nylon designer handbags, which now include collections integrated with new materials such as crystal, tortoise shell, and wood.
Generally, Prada handbags flaunt basic but classic chic style handcrafted in different shapes and sizes, including totes, backpacks, clutches. Here are some of them:
